As a coach, I've come to increasingly appreciate the roles the running specialty stores and other such resources provide in support of the high school and collegiate running communities.

This experimental set of articles represents an attempt to help get the word out about the many ways that the running experiences in our communities are enhanced. In these monthly calendar articles, I propose to highlight meet sponsorships, team nights, special speakers and programs, and the like that are made available in support of, and as resources available to, the school cross country and track and field programs in our communities. Please note, "team nights" will only be listed for the months that track and field and cross country seasons are opening. Obviously, these events are for the benefit for the store as much as for the benefit of the community, but these events also clearly represent good-will gestures from the stores to the communities that support them. Most stores go out of their ways to provide fun, positive, and informative experiences for the teams that come in.

Anyone, whether directlly associated with a running specialty store or not, offering such a service to our community is invited to submit a listing for inclusion. Road races and track meets outside of the set seasons for high school cross country and track and field are welcome and will be listed if information is provided in advance, but will be listed on the meet calendar rather than within these articles.

This article will be more or less continuously updated as information about new events is received. No listing below should be construed as an endorsement of the group, business, or store listed.
